MISSION

Remember the all-nighters in the basement?

Just waiting for that moment when it was your turn to fight the monster. You had your weapons in your hand. You were ready and the gods were on your side.

There was something about it... a kind of spooky magic. There was real thrill involved. And fear as well. It seemed only too easy to 'die'... and that's the exhilarating part. You never really knew what was coming. The roll of that die determined all. And what a marvelous way to tell a story!

DUNGEON-LORD© is a blend between the look and feel of RPGs of the mid 1970s-80s, whilst utilizing some of the best, simple mechanics (that have been developed over the years within the RPG industry) and keeping some of the old school character mechanics in place. The design of the books are meant to reflect the look and feel of the previous eras mentioned, but the game should ideally function more smoothly than the classic, early games. At least, that's the idea... isn't that the eventual goal of all RPGs?

So, yes, DUNGEON-LORD© is 'a different kind of OSR'. We want you to experience the yesteryear-old-school-spooky thrill with common sense, practical mechanics and allow the 'magic' of the unknown to be determined by that random die roll.

We want to stay as pure to that idea/standard as much as possible. We offer simple, strong mechanics that can sit comfortably in any game setting. But with a 'wildness' of early, classic games... especially in regards to our Magic System.

DUNGEON-LORD© also offers story telling techniques that help get the player into the dungeon adventure as quickly as possible. A tool that is extremely useful when time becomes a factor.

Base Mechanics are important in all RPGs. They are the foundation.  And it's important they make good 'game sense'. We are striving to achieve a game that folds 'in-on-itself' with strong, simple mechanics wrapped in a process that isn't as time consuming as the alternatives.

In the end, these are just guide books for you to use, as you see fit, to tell the story you want to tell your players and friends. We hope the structure of the game will aid in that end.

DUNGEON-LORD© is a rules-lite, fantasy role-playing game that attempts to bridge a gap between prep time and play time via distilling its content in the way it is presented to the player. The goal is to set the player into the dungeon adventure as quickly as possible. Specifically aiming at those short nights, when there never seems to be enough time for a good game – all the while, attempting to sacrifice little in the details of story scenario.
Players should listen carefully to the background details. As clues, rumors and spook stories may help them before the end of their dungeon crawl.
